Lance - You may think I am strange (which is true), but I like the scanned image better than the photo. The body looks fuller and the color is more interesting, in my opinion, in the first image.

Ray, I know what you mean. It looks like Mr. Trout is getting more for his money in the first one.

The second fly looks a little more emaciated than it is, caused by over-saturation with light that ate away at the fiber edges. Controlling the two flash units I'm using is tricky, in addition to adjusting the distance of the fly from the white card. This is practice for me as I figure out the correct formula.
Seeing Boris' beetle (Thank you Boris), suggests adding a little more substance to the body, possibly by wrapping a strand of wool under the herl. (This auto-correct is driving me crazy. It always turns
herl to
hero, and
flymph to
lymph. That got me thinking that a good name for a tying event might be
THE FLYMPH NODE,

except that those words imply worrisome medical issues.)
