Willowhead has kindly sent me one of his creations , we will name it Turner's Cross after that mystical river that seen a gathering of anglers of much renown.

As soon as I can I will post a picture of this wonderfully tied fly.

It's late August now and with the shortening of the days and with the diminishing of the hatches the trout are beginning to leave the faster water. I guess that it a matter of arithmetic. The conveyor belt of food that allowed them to take in more energy than they required to sustain themselves in such water is diminishing and one by one as the balance of outcome from each feeding lie swings, its occupant deserts it for more favorable water.
On occasion they will return as the availability of food dictates, but their presence there will be shortlived. The bigger trout may well have deserted such places weeks ago, caught one time too many they will be more discerning in their feeding behaviour.

The slacker water on the edge of flows close to the bank or under trees are now of major interest to the fly angler. Midge and terestrials are now of more importance to the trout and in the quiet corners a bigger trout may still yield to a large dry or a tiny midge both wet and dry. For some anglers this heralds the end of their fishing season. For others who enjoy prospecting it can be an enjoyable type of fly fishing and the rewards to those that put in the effort can be surprising.

Yes it will be a very good fall fishing. The school season starts very soon. Down side-I'm a school bus driver & my prime week day fishing will only be on school holidays. Upside I am a substitute driver so I can keep track of 2 good Trout streams that wind through the whole area I work in. ;)

As Willowhead would hummm, " And now, the end is nigh........" ;)

Season for me is over, kaput, finis, Am ende, El final, La fine, Slutet, הסוף , 的结束

The trout are in the river and I bid them a safe winter and happy spawning and hope that some of this seasons 10inchers become next seasons 13inchers and that they and I are both a little wiser when battle recommences.

Aaagh, where are the Trout now.

With a bit of luck in my neck of the woods whilst we obsess over the trappings of christmas they will be about their spawning and I toast them every success in their love life.

Hard to believe that its nearly a year since this thread started and I know in a week of two the prospects of the coming season will once again take over the thought processes.

Hank, have you caught that big un yet ???
