It bends easily and does not rust.
Often times dorsata stonefly nymphs are found on submerged woody material in the shallows by the banks, even in the Fall. I substitute 16 ga, copper wire (from Hobby Lobby) for the lead wire, then the flat aluminum on top of the wire.
My theory is the trout are not looking for exact detail on the big stonefly nymphs. I have never found a reason to add the wing holsters on the top of the thorax. Shape, size, color, and movement of the legs I feel are the prominent features to get the trout's attention.
