Greenwells, a few from the family

I have to admit been fascinated by this family of flies, probably because mayflies are a major food source for trout on my local river. What really fascinates me is the many styles in which it has been tied to be fished in different ways.

These are only a small number of them.

Simple spider - reasonably sparse - Dark Furnace or greenwells hackle depending on what you are imitating.

Allthough I refrain from showing it here a small number of CDC dry versions will account for a majority of trout i catch each season on dries.

The last one above is actually a rolled undercovert fibre split wing - it looks a bit of a dogs mess in the picture, not quite so bad in reality. Haven't fished it yet , that will be a 4 or 5 months away.

Yes Waxed some lightly, some heavily. The wax I use was given to me by Tango on Uk Flydressing, beeswax & roisin & castor oil, the precise combination I do not know.

Question about Mike Connors softwing:
why are wings perpendicular on hook? Is that something to do with movement of fly under water... or with looks... or it is somethong else?

Greenwells and it's many variations are a favorite in my fly box. So simple, clean and deadly. How can one not appreciate a fly like that. Well done Otter.
