Yet another question!

Post by fflutterffly » Sat Aug 13, 2011 7:09 am

5:15 AM What is the difference between the Leisenring Spider and the Hare's Ear's Spider? 5: 23 AM Never mind. I just took a trip to the internet land of knowledge and found the answer. The Hare's ear spider had wings, tail, tinsel. The Spider has wire, no wing, no tail. Ok it's all a learning experience, just like opening my eyes every morning. I love the adventure of the day.

Hi,
I found the dressing for the Leisenring Spider in The Sports Illustrated Book Of Wet Fly Fishing. It was written by Vern Hidy, and can often be found second hand on e-bay or used book sellers. It is a great addition to the Leisenring/Hidy book because it discusses some fishing techniques and shows the processes of tying as the two men did it.

Mark - I believe that book is a reprint of the three-part article written for the Sport Illustrated magazing back in the early 1960's. These articles are available on line here:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/ ... /index.htm <----- When the page opens, click on the link called "SI View This Issue" near the center of the screen. This will open a reader and you can see the original magazine article. Navigate to Page 110 to see Hidy's tying instructions. When the reader opens, you can click on the "View Thumbnail" tab and then navigate quickly to the right page (although it is fun to page thru the old magazine...shows how much times have changed since then).
