Hi Donald,
I like these, both the ties, and the scans. As you know, I like the white backgrounds, so these seem better than the earlier dark ones with the lid partly open.
Sorry to hear that Tie2fish and ChaseCreek have had bad results with their scanners. I wonder if it is simply a matter of the settings?
The two key things are to turn off all the so-called image-enhancement software settings such as dust removal, tone balance, and sharpening, and to use your highest hardware scan resolution. Inferior brands such as HP make this devilishly difficult to do, but Epson and Canon scanners are much more user-friendly.
Hardware resolution means the actual sampling rate, in dots-per-inch, of the sensor. Most scanners also offer fake resolution enhancement through interpolation. The fake enhancement just increases the image, making it bigger in Mb, but not adding any new detail information.
