Portabella Dun

Post by Old Hat » Wed Jan 02, 2013 11:37 pm

I was playing around with a caddis pattern using some yarn dyed "portabella". The yarn is a 50/50 mix of silk and merino wool. This color reminds me a bit of a classic steelhead pattern "The Burlap" which used a burlap strand for the body.

Hook: #12 Ken Sawada Old Limerick Wet
Thread: Pearsall's silk thread, black
Tag: fine silver tinsel
Body: Silk and Ivory wool dyed portabella
Hackle: partridge dyed dun

I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Very nice looking Caddis imitation, not a mushroom in sight, but one heck of a fly. :D

Very classy indeed. There's nothing about it that I don't like.

Nice! It does remind me of the Burlap as well. Great hook choice. I'm a fan of those Ken Sawada hooks.

Carl, that is a wonderful use of the body material and killer looking caddis. Nicely done. cool hook too.
