Peacock

This is the fly that I tied for the last IBF swap. There was a guy in a fly shop that I frequent and he had a few quills of this bronze/burgandy color. I thought it would make for a perfect soft hackle pattern and he was kind enough to gift one of his quills. I wish the pics (mine were sad, and Letumgo did a great job of photographing the swap set...) but it's still impossible to show how rich the tones of these herls look in person. He said they were from a local bird. I'll probably try to score another quill next time I'm up there.

Thread: black 14/0 griffiths
Body: bronze/burgandy peacock herl, twisted with tying thread.
Hackle: Collins black hen.

I've often wondered if different types of window glass could account for the different degrees of color in "sun bleached" peacock.

I followed a link on Mikes post and saw cream Peacock , Does anybody know if the cream color is still iridescent.?

Hi John,
Yes indeed I have peacock. Natural, Red and Black.
To my eyes bronze Peackock seems to be a bit more coppery orange when wet than the green Peacock .

I incorporate peacock herl into a lot of my nondescript flies. I may have to give a fly dressed with the green herl a dunk once to see if perhaps once wet some of those other colors come to life. I do tie with some that I'm quite sure have had the various colors mentioned as naturals as well as some that have changed by getting some sun. Then too some are just plain green. All to often though once wet and matted down most all have some of the bronze, copper and or burgundy color to them.
