Mark - When I looked at the stem on the pintail feathers I knew they would be a challenge to use. I have tyed streamer with Bali Duck feather (aka - baikal teal duck) wing feather and it was very difficult to work with. The center stems are very course (large diameter), which makes them want to slide around. Glad you were able to wrestle them into submission.

Here is a link to a fly with a Bali Duck feather (the wing feather) in case anyone wants to see it:

Don't want to hijack Mark's thread, but that is one gorgeous streamer, Ray!

Thanks & good point. My link is not intended to high jack Mark's thread. I just used it to illustrate other feathers that are very difficult to use. Sorry for the distraction Mark.

Ray, i already started a new fly where i'm gonna use those feather.....the LARGE streamer feathers..............it's gonna be one one of those really long gold streamer hooks i have. Btw, i'm impressed with the way you never flinched when you saw what i had written bout thanking you for the three wing feather sets...............when all along you knew there were four..........by not saying anything you let me be surprised when i finally realized that too. Way cool..... 8-)

Back from the latest trip almost.....gotta make a stop in Denver in the morning (Thurs. the 31st of March), then head on home. Be home by the 2nd or 3rd......
Been a great trip......don't have to head out again until April 20th. Go to Talhequah, Oaklahoma for the Smallmouth Rondezvous and Fly Tying Extravaganza on the 22nd & 23rd.....and then on down to San Antonio, TX. for the FFF Gulf Coast Council Conclave in the Crown Plaza Hotel on the Riverwalk, May 6th & 7th.
Hadda gig (one nighter on a tour), in San Antonio once in the 90's with the Buster Williams (google) Band, but never did get to see much of the city. Gonna make up for that this time. ;)

Ray.....i just finished a fly using the largest feathers of those wing set you sent...........this thing is BIZZARRE....... i mean totally off the wall..........i did it on one of those really long gold streamer hooks i have.............and used an Enrico Puglisi dubbing brush for the body..........but it only filled up bout 2/3rds to 3/4ths of the shank length.....so i hadds put some dubbing in a loop to finish wraping the body. Then all the bizzarre twist and turns started from there. But in the end, i like it actually...........
Ruard.....i used some of the feather (slips), you sent.....the Argus Pheasent, for accents and horn type recipe parts........very odd and strange use of materials........ :D i'm beat.........we had a TU Chapter meeting tonight, then the game, and i didn't even start the fly til bout 2:30 a.m. Later............

Sounds wild, Mark, but I would expect no less. Maybe you could name the fly "Sleep Deprivation" (humor) :D

Mark, you've gotta get Misa to shoot this one so we can see it!

Cool name.....besides, there's plenty time for sleep when you dead. i just slept from sometime after 6 a.m. til 11:30 a.m., feel great. It was amazing how that EP dubbing brush didn't even fill up that hook shank...........i hadda take and fill up a loop with some Chartruse sparkle dubbing to fill in the gap, and then pick the hell out of it, just to get up to where the wing would be "set", and also fill in the huge circumframce gap made by the dubbing brush. The fly has no tail or tag, because the dubbing brush body just dominates like KArazy.........you can't even see the hook bend...... And i just put eyes on the fly this morning when i did the second coat of Hard As Hull............prolly get at least two more coats on there later.
i swear this fly is represenative of what some of the fish are gonna look like off the coast of Japan in 6 months. :? :P
