I just saw in a news article that the "Elfstedentocht" is going to be held this year...

Have you been out helping clear the ice ??? Does it go near your home ???

hi Hank, it is not sure yet that there will be an Elfstedentocht. It is already madness here about the Elfstedentocht. It is about 100km from my house. I don't clear the ice I am only skating but not this Elfstedentocht that is about 200 km and I can skate about 40 km than I am tired.

I am afraid so Mark, I've wanted some Owl hackles for years, I don't think I'll get them now.
Never mind, there are still plenty of others that are available, I've just sent an order into Cookshill
for Woodcock, Grouse, Jay and Partridge, plus some Greylag goose feathers.

Good on ya D.N. May your tyin' days be long and fruitful. And your fishin' days as well. The new season has just reopened the two mile stretch below the dam here, and the Shad kill through the turbins on the dam is just beginning............it means huge Browns (starving after the spawn), feeding on anything big and white. Sadly i cannot fish as of yet.........."But It Was A Dream."

The next one is : Dark Olive:



Here is one on a Drennan hook. I used a way to use biggish hackles on a rather little fly: Take away the very point of the feather, use only the fiberpoint, Tie in at the upside of the hook and repeat under the hookshank.



Sorry about the rubbish that come outof the knot.

The hackle comes from the point where the wings meet eachother and the tail starts.

Beautiful tyes ! Both are wonderful , each in it 's own way.
As you used 2 different styles (one for each), I think they are
both "just right", and a wee bit of rubbish can be easily taken care of.
