Very nice fly.........i love the Owner Mosquito hooks......been usin' those for 2 or 3 years now.

i took a dozen flies to Idaho.........tyed bout 20 more at the show..........and all flies were either donated, swaped, given away or sold (6). The Idaho (NIFFE) show was real nice. The people were terrific and the dinner and auctions were great. They roped me into being a "Spotter" during the dinner auction, and it was fun. i ended up with a beautiful wood fish carving, and a two frames "set" of the event poster, post card, pin, flyer, and fly tyed by John Shewey. Shewey also gave me another fly, and i did swaps with quite a few of the other tyers, including Will Godfree the legendary auctioneer. i gotta tell you, that part of Idaho is gorgeous, and today we travelled for miles and miles alllllllllllll along the Clearwater and Lockshaw Rivers and also along Lolo Creek after comming over Lolo Pass back into Montana. Spectacular countryside.......
In the morning i have to go get a new windsheild put in.........that's twice Montana roads have resulted in broken windsheilds for us.

I think these little black flies are invaluable. Especially around here in the early season when little black stoneflies are around. They live for several days and mate several times which puts them on, in or close to the water a lot. This is beautifully tied and I really like the contrasting thorax. How did you dye the peacock? And Bill's right about the hackle. I love the way that sets. Cool fly.

I just tied something similar yesterday with a crow herl body. I hope you don't mind if I post those later (not yet photographed.) I just wanted to show a pattern on the newly identified black hooks. It won't compare to this.

Thanks gentlemen, a black biot or crow herl would look wonderful on this pattern and definitely add to the buggy factor.

Roadkill - water is high, cold but clear. Only two weeks left of the season though, so you better hurry.

Mark- the show sounds like it was a good one. Missed it, I ended up doing recon with the kids and a friend on camping locations for a float in July. I will try again next year to get in on it.

William - no dying here either, found a very nicely dyed feather at a recent show.

Got the new windsheild put in this morning.........we're in Dillon, Montana tonight. Drove along the Bitteroot, the Big Hole, and the Beaverhead today. Got our Montana licenses today for the rest of this year.....good until next Feb. actually. Tomorrow we head for Idaho Falls and on to Wyoming. Denver and beyond on Wed. Home by Thurs. or Fri. Found some really nice dyed Teal feathers in a few colors today, and some bleeched and dyed Peacock in some cool colors, etc. in the local fly shop.
