I received some beautiful Waterhen feathers a bit ago (thanks) and paired them with a Heron feather that I found streamside a couple weeks ago.
Hook: #12 Daiichi 1550
Silk: Primrose Pearsalls Gossamer
Tag and Rib: Silk doubled and corded
Thorax: Natural Mole

A very fine dressing William,
I have never seen a heron quill, they have been on the ban for about a hundred years, or so it seems.
Is it very different from the substitute, which is usually wild grey goose, not a bad herl.

Thanks everyone. Donald, I thought there were some available in the UK. Am I mistaken about that? I've seen a few Kites Imperial and Old Blue patterns posted online using these herls. I've tied using goose too, which in my eyes is as nice a feather as this. In fact, if the single, mangled, streamside Heron feather is illegal to use, then this is actually a goose feather.
