Woodduck Woodcock Caddis 1530

Post by William Anderson » Sun Jun 19, 2011 4:24 pm

Is this something? Abdomin is a woodduck feather tied in by the tip, twisted and brought forward in one big turn. The thorax is a CDC feather, same deal. Woodcock hackle. Looks okay. Completely untested.

You know thats gonna get some trout attention. I am sure it will take on a very buggy appearance as soon as those trout teeth start ripping into that twisted Wood duck feather. Great picture and pattern!
The mottled effect of the lemon Wood Duck sure reminds me of a Golden Stone nymph. Now you have me thinking.

That is SOMETHING, alright! I think it is brilliant emerger pattern. The CDC thorax will be enveloped in an air bubble, while the rear body will soak through. Increadibly "fishy" design (sincere compliment).

Looks way more than OK. Looks way natural and buggy. Good thinking!

Great design idea..........as Caddis have fatter rear ends than they do front ends, (thereby in reality their bodies are the opposite of a Mayfly ice cream cone shape), your already just bout there. Just slim down the CDC section a "little" bit in the front end.....and you've got it. Then you could also do another version including an egg sack, and you'd be covered in any caddis hatch/emergence or spinner fall/egg laying session situation. ;) Course you'd had to cover a lot of sizes and colors. But what else have you got to do? :D

Hank, I took it as a high compliment.

I need to try this body out with some other feathers. I tied up some with cdc and some with partridge, I just don't have pics of them yet. They look nice on the vise anyway.
