Actually, I wan't intending to imitate anything in particular with this -- just interested to see what would happen. I've tied "standard" peccary bristle bodies before, and they do look nice, with good segmentation and color variations, but nothing I would call special. This was more or less an experiement, and I was initially somewhat disappointed with the irregularity of the wraps when viewed under magnification. But for some reason it was also quite appealing in a non-standard way and I thought I'd post it just to see what kind of reactions it would get from the members. The peccary bristles themselves are quite strong and flexible without any prep and I've found no need to soak them. However, I did twist off a couple at their very fine tips by spinning the rope too tight on my first try. As for a cased caddis imitation, this body with a reversed (Tenkara) style partridge hackle and yellow/green head ought to work.

i figured it was basicaly an experimental type a thing upon first glance. But the more i look at it, with that Cased Caddis outlook or mindset, the more i likes it. i bet a body like that, with a Tenkara style hackle.......(think Caddis).......would be WAY Cool. It was the "twisting" aspects that made me wonder if you thought about soaking them first. i've never had to soak them for wraping a standard type a body. You might get one outta 20 that splits on ya, but that'll happen with Peacok or a neck hackle rachis, or anything of that nature when wraped as a body. ;)
DANG, i didn't even see you last sentence before replying.....great minds think alike. Yup, a green head.....way cool. :D

Thanks for elaborating, gents--I can definitely see the KF as giving a little glint the way a patch of exposed silk might. Of course, if you're into bling, y'all got to kick it up a notch:

C.B., there's a women ( i forget her name) who's been doing this since the early 90's. She used to do some of the east coast shows like Somerset.......and she's had her tank there and you could watch the Caddis doin' their thing. i bought Misako a Caddis Case necklace made by Caddis out of Mother of Pearl, back around 1996.....somewhere in there.. She still has it..... ;)

That's very cool--good thing there's not a Trichoptera union, I suppose. :)

Great find, CB. I really like the way Mssr. Duprat's mind works -- combining the strictly utilitarian labors of caddis larvae with glittery precious materials to create objects of beauty was an inspired idea. But who is the artist in this case (pun intended) ... Duprat or the caddis larvae? And aren't many of their wraps non-parallel in nature (another pun intended)? Does this portray gold to its best advantage? So many questions ... :?
