Cream and Green

Post by DUBBN » Sat Feb 25, 2012 11:48 pm

I bought a few spools of Uni-Stretch a few weeks ago. Yellow, Lt. Olive (Pale Yellow), and Orange. I really havent given it much of a try, so I thought I would give er a whirl this evening. This is what I came up with.

Hook - Dai-Riki 135 size 14
Thread - Lt. Olive Uni-Stretch (Looks Yellow to me)
Abdomen- Uni-Flex Base, covered with Clear Midge Tubing, with a Green Krystalflash core.
Thorax- Cream Rabbit Fur (teased out)
Collar - Ginger Hen Hackle (Miner)

From now on I think I will tie off the Uni-Stretch after I wrap over the abdomen, and retie with thread. The thread will make a smaller, neater head. I wanted a light Ginger hackle. The Herbert Miner was the right color, but I am afraid it acts like Rooster Hackle.

I think I can make this technique work on a couple dumb trout. ;)

I love these curved caddis patterns.

Is it cheating if I keep copying your patterns?

Nah, it's just flattery... :D

Thanks you two!

Hank, if it were not for the few dumb trout, I'd probably be skunked most of the time. ;)

Ray, if you havent noticed (bet you have) I have fallen in love with Bills technique of adding a core to Midge Tubing. I have caught enough fish (dumb ones as usual ;) ) for it to be more than a fad for me. These flys have a permanent spot in my fly box.
