Hare's Lug and Plover

This one is with Sharptail as a sub.


This one has the real deal thanks to Ray. Also thanks to Jeff for the wonderful Hare's ear fur.

I did a couple more of these, but haven't taken photos. These flies were tied by me in the wee hours, with very little sleep. Anyway these two are on a Mustad 3906 hook. If you have a comment, or tip...I am open. I really don't know much about these flies, but I think they are beautiful. That Golden Plover is so beautiful. The photo just does not do it justice.

Beautiful flies, Kelly! Great little soft hackles. I wouldn't change a thing about either of them. Lovely proportions, nicely hackled, and the spikey dubbing is very "buggy-looking" (sincere compliment). Your a natural, my friend.

Thank you Ray. The second photo was not as clear as I would of liked. I am going to do more, and take more photos. Hopefully I can get a photo that sets the fly off. The Plover was so gorgeous. The photo just isn't showing the beauty of it. This was the first time I've ever dubbed with real Hare's ear too...I loved it. I am too freaked out to pluck hair off a hare's mask. So Jeff kindly sent me some to try. I may have to get one, shear it, that way I don't have to look at those awful eye holes....rotflmbo.

LOL...you think I am kidding? Believe me I am not. I can't have a mask in my house, of any type. They are just too creepy. I can have the feet, a birds skin complete with head (although I don't like that) When my daughter lived here, she would scream sometimes when she opened the freezer and found one of my newest additions in there. I will never forget when she saw a Golden Pheasant head/crest, and she almost cried. She thought I had a canary in the freezer. I can still hear her scream.
Not much creeps me out, but I don't like dead eyes looking at me, or worse, blank holes where the eyes SHOULD BE. So Jeff understood my issue with it, and kindly sent me some fur from different parts of the hare. I know this is funny, I'm laughing myself thinking about it.

Nice spiky buggy looking flies! And that Golden Plover, well it's something special eh?

Your making this Jeff out to be a half pie decent fellow, I hope to meet him on the water one day, maybe we can swap lies.

If you ever come to visit here DO NOT EVER look in a freezer without asking first, you would be shocked to see what I keep in there in the way of tying materials or small mammals that are rated as pest here and protected elsewhere!
I Imagine opening a carton to see it filled with halved Hare carcasses may just tip you over the edge, especially as the front halves often still have their heads.... less the skins.

I'm glad I'm not the only one creeped out by the flat little bunny faces. I've gotten used to working with them now, but I trimmed the hair off the first mask I bought so it would stop staring at me. Funny, ain't it!

Not as funny as the end result of skinning them out and having the fleshy face and eyes looking at you without the fur!

When my 4 yr old Granddaughter comes to visit, she always goes in Grandpa's tying room and strokes any feathers that might be out, saying "Poor little birdie, poor little birdie". They are so used to me getting packages at the office, when one arrives, the receptionist calls me and says "You have another package of dead animal parts". My wife no longer asks what's in the packages.
It's a lonely life, the life of a tier.
