Ray,
What a beauty! I don't know what to say other than this is what I would want to have in my box when this hatch starts. Unbelievable craftsmanship Ray. The history attached to this pattern is quite interesting too! Please keep us fed!

Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.

Me too, I'm at your mercy in some regards and am enjoying the illustration of the fly style and the exceptional example. Nice silk work. I've been tying with exaggerated (for me) hackle in the past year. This really pushed the limits and should attract quote a bit of attention with the mobility. Kudos Raymond.tie2fish wrote:I have no clue as to what the Derbyshire style should look like, but this fly is a thing of true beauty to my eye. Dainty and "buggy", with perfect proportions and impeccably tied.

Hi Ray,
When I first saw the subject heading, I thought you'd found a cheese I had never tried.
On a second look. I saw the word "dun" and then went to "Modern Fly Dressing".
I like the word "dressing", it sounds much more superior to "tying".
Just a little bit of pointless snobbery.

Ray, Howdy;
Very well presented, gorgeous fly, now can you replicate it at least 9 more times ... .
Of course you can I'm just being facetious as usual...
Excellent on all counts.

Hank - There are eight more ugly cousins, which each look just like this fly. Fugly (fishable-ugly)!
Thank you very much, for sending over the reference material from Mr. Wooley's book. I printed it out and read it several times this week, as I prepared to try tying this fly again. I found the reference to be extreemly helpful. Thanks Hank.

Ray, Howdy;
My knowledge base is miniscule compared to the majority, but when
some folks recommend a book and I can find it, and it's affordable, I
snag it and give it a good read. I think it was Donald that recommended
this one maybe 3 years ago. His prompt sent me to it so...
any time I can lend a hand ... least I can do to help re-pay the tons of
help and advise that have been showered upon me by several forum members.
Wish I could do more.

Hi Ray,
Excellent step by step explanation of this fly and well tied too.
Do you put a few layers of thread at the base of the wing to keep it up?
greeting

There will allways be a solution.

Ruard - Yes. I made a couple wraps forward of the wing, to help hold the wing in position.
