Thread- 8/0 Uni in Camel
Body- Natural Hares Mask, with a preferance to the Amber Fur
Rib- Small Copper wire.
Collar- Brown hen cape

I also tie this pattern with a tail of Hen Hackle.
This is the pattern I did very well with today. I tryed it with a tail, and without, and also using the oversize feather (Partridge) approach that was discussed over the weekend. All performed excellent! The pics of some of the fish this pattern was responsible for are on the Fishing Cabin section of this site under the thread entitled "Withdrawls".
Thanks to the tiers of this site for their words of wisdom. I greatly appreciate you.
I hope to take better pics of my fish, and my patterns .

Dubbn, this is a great post. Your pics are great and it's always great to hear how these patterns do on the stream. This is the go to pattern on almost every outing with a hen, partridge or grouse hackle. Congrats on getting out. I hope the consequenses aren't too severe. (smiley)

It looks a likely fly, unfortunately I have trouble with the back-ground.
I cannot see the fly clearly, my eyes are not up to coping with too many colours.

This is about as good as I can do with my little Fuji Z33 Water Proof camera.
I used my garage door (facing West) and the afternoon sun as lighting.
I layed on my stomach, and set the camera on the driveway to steady it. Took about 6 different pictures. About pic number 3, Vandy, my neighbor, came over and asked "Termites, or heart attack?". Yeah, she has a sense of humor, and yes I looked like an idiot!
Anyway Mr. Nicolson, I hope this picture is better.

This was the last fly I had on for the day, and accounted for 4 to 5 fish.

Thread- 8/0 Uni in Camel

Collar- Brown hen cape 2 to 3 full turns
1. Hackle.... I prefer that my hackle never protrude further back than the barb of the hook. Sometimes it does, and other times it doest even protrude to the barb. It's all good. In my little world of fly tying my perfect SH, the hackle would always meet the barb.
I like a little fuller collar so I wrap my hackle 2 to 3 turns...Mostly three turns.
2. Dubbing.... I use natural Hares ear, but when I buy a mask I make sure it has alot of Amber/Tan fur. Thats the longer fur that I am guessing comes from the cheek of the mask. I blend it at about 75% long Amber fur, and 25% short darker fur that we usually use for tails on a Gold Ribbed Hares Ear nymph.
Now a confession. I dont usually tie this fly in a size 18 or smaller. For the small ones I use the same steps except I use Tan Beaver fur or any Tan superfine dubbing.
It's a simple fly and I can crank a bunch out in very short order.
