Vicki,
Both are excellent dressings, but that first one is just awesome. Very well done. Is it still raining?

Vicki - Your beautiful flies are almost making me wish for more rain. Wonderful flies, but I still wouldn't mind a few dry days so I could get out and fish...

It is still raining. I haven't checked yet today but rain was in the forecast for every day I have off the next couple of weeks!
The hackle in the first one is the white on the head. They aren't the best size for that hook but they're not too bad. It's my favourite too.

Number 1 gets my vote as well--a lovely fly. (BTW, if you're into wet-fly tapers in vintage cane, the TenkaraUSA "Ayu" will fit your stroke nicely.

I like the first one a lot. The angle of the hackle is a lot more subtle and the proportion of head to body is more pleasing (to my eye, at least - the fish probably don't care and would take either.)
